Problem: The performance of a military radar system was not high enough to keep up with new mission-critical requirements. Designers needed an X band synthesizer with outstanding phase noise, ultra-fast switching, high spurious free dynamic range, and the ability to perform arbitrary waveform generation.

The WaveCor Solution: A WaveCor Synthesizer was quickly created using high performance mix/divide expanders and a custom engineered output module to meet the customer's rigorous signal power requirements. An internal memory was also provided to store the customer's custom chirp waveforms. The resulting synthesizer exceeded all requirements while easily meeting the delivery schedule.

Problem: A defense contractor needed a broadband synthesizer to test the EW suite of fighter aircraft on the flight line. This synthesizer needed to generate a wide array of clean, arbitrary test waveforms at high switching speeds. The synthesizer had to also fit the footprint of the incumbent, lower performance synthesizer in four 6U VME slots.

The WaveCor Solution: Given the standard WaveCor Synthesizer's size, it was relatively straightforward to migrate the design to a VME form factor, which offered increased real estate. Signal purity was achieved with a single mix/divide expander and two direct conversion expanders. Our standard WaveCor software easily accommodated the customer's requirement to produce a range of complex test signals.
